Maxine was accused after Federal Election Commissions files showed that her daughter received over $240,000 in payments from her campaign over a two-year period. Looking back, Maxine has been accused of such doings ever since 2004 but it was in 2020 that she was found guilty.

It is also reported that Maxine has helped other members of her family financially from her position before. However, Maxine replied,

They do their business, and I do mine to which she further added, we don’t have to answer your questions. We are not a bad people.
